I need a good laptop for college. Right now I’ve a Dell Latitude CPx J650GT. It was made in 2000, and has a 650 MHz processor and 512MB of RAM.
Obviously, it's time for an upgrade. I need a cheap but reliable laptop that could also be used for gaming. Any suggestions?
This $700 laptop has the same graphics card as the Macbook Pro. It's a fairly good card for a laptop, and an especially good one at this price point. Plus, it has 4GB of RAM, which is important for a lot of games (going from 2GB to 4GB made a huge difference for me).
Asus generally has the most powerful laptops for the money, so if you don't like what I've suggested, start looking around at Asuses (Asī? Asūs?)
The Alienware that someone suggested is a VERY good laptop for the price, but it might be out of your price point. If you’ve the money, go for that one.
Good Option: Find out if anyone in your family gets discounts on personal from their employer. My employer buys mostly Dells, so Dell gives our employees a 6 - 12% discount. Get the discounted laptop, but make sure to get at least 3gb RAM and avoid Celron or Atom CPU's. Don't spend more than $550, and make sure its specs are at least as good as the laptop below:
Another good option: This Dell Inspiron 15 for $549.
