i was on a poem site for class and my laptop freaked out.. and all of a sudden thing sstarted poping up and it said it was doing a virus scan.. and now i have a virus.. and i dont know what to do.. help?

This is malware. It is a program that fakes that you have a virus so you purchase their software to try to remove it. Go to start>accessories>system tools>system restore. Restore to your closest date before you think you got the virus. This should do the trick. By the way the post below states to use a virus scanner but most of the time these virus's block all virus scanners and executable files so save yourself all the headache and just do a system restore it takes like 10 mins.

Im guessing you were using internet explorer, the pop up is a scam used by companies to get you to buy their products.

If you are using the web you should have a virus scanner already installed on your machine, if not purchase one like norton 360 or get one free from AVG

Once scanned remove any viruses you may have, and use mozilla firefox/google chrome web browsers in future for your 'poetry'
