Okay, so I've figured out how to install extra memory to my Compaq Presario v2000 laptop.

But the thing is, when I opened up the panel where I'm supposed to install it, I think there is already a stick taking up the place that’s supposed to be empty.

I got this laptop from my brother and I'm almost positive that he didn’t add extra memory to it when he had it.

So I'm not sure if I'm not looking hard enough that I'm not seeing the actual place that it is supposed to go or not.

So if you could help me out with this, that'd be great.

Answer:
usually laptops have only two slots for expansion and both slots will be used. if its 512 mb ram you have in there. it will usually be 2 256mb ram sticks etc. etc. if the stick you bought is more massive than either of those sticks, just replace one of them.

it should work unless the ram is incompatible.

Do you have a digital cam and someplace you could upload a pic that we can see that would show us what you have? I'd be able to help you much better… otherwise, im or email me.

Answer:
Hope u r speaking about increasing your RAM ? In Laptops there will b 2 slots for RAM . But in order to increase dual channel performance of ur RAM , the 2 slots will be equipped . That’s if u have a 1 GB Ram , then ur slots will each have 512 MB . They have the ability to put one single 1 GB stick in one slot and leave the other free . But u wont get optimum performance in that case. The total RAM is shared on the 2 slots to increase the dual channel performance . I m not sure whether its healthy to put 2 different size RAM sticks in one Laptop . I recommend u get 2 equal size RAM sticks and put them on say 1 GB 1 Gb etc..
