We’ve 2 HP Pavilion Dv5000 laptops. One of them will not start up. I’ve tested the ram, the hard drive, AC adapter/power cord, both batteries in the other laptop and the hardware all works.
So in the bad laptop, all the lights come on, fan comes on, DVD drive works, but laptop refuses to boot up. Cant get anything up on the screen to go into BIOS or Safe mode. After everything we have read and tried, we’ve come to the conclsion either the CPU got fried or the motherboard has gone bad. Just trying to figure out if the laptop would still have power and lights if the CPU or motherboard is dead. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
PS… don’t tell me to call HP or take it to a tech repair, I cant afford it and HP refuses to help anyone. Its all over google about these laptops & HPs horrible customer service/lack of help with this issue.
Answer: A faulty component will still grant power to be used by other components. It is most likely a problem with the screen, motherboard(integrated video card or the actual board), or the CPU(usually not). Your best bet it swapping out the components with known working ones starting with the motherboard.
Answer: Alaxanda, I didnt ask anyone to take a GUESS. I just needed to know IF the laptop would power up, light up, fans run, etc, etc if the CPU or motherboard went bad. If you would have taken the time to read all my post, additional details included, you would see that I tried external monitor.

Answer: It should light up and spin fans if either component is bad.
You'd really have to swap the cpu (if it's socketed) to find out.
Answer: Sounds like your display simply took a dump. Plug an external monitor in and see what happens
Answer: it might be the display without looking at it you are asking us to take a random guess
