I’m going to purchase a new notebook, i need it for multimedia at all: blu-ray movies, dts\mp3's
which one should i get intel i5 or i7. I thought that in future i7 got more possibilities for upgrade? what do you think.

Answer:
That depends. The i5 is the downgraded version of the i7. It doesn't support some of the features of the i7, like QPI and triple-channel RAM, thusly the i7 has more performance. The cost for that performance is power draw. The i7 draws quite a bit more than the i5, and will run the laptop battery down faster. They also use different sockets, so are not interchangeable for upgrades. Being that most laptops are severely limited in upgrading ability, what you pick is probably what you’ll be stuck with. Either of these processors will easily run multi-media apps. If this will be your primary personal, I would get the i7. If this is just for on the go, where battery life is important, go with the i5.

Answer:
You can never upgrade the processor and graphics card in a laptop so i wouldn't consider upgrades.

I would go for the I5. The only difference between that and the I7 is hyper threading. Which means you can run the processors 4 cores + 4 virtual cores. In reality it should give you about a 25% performance increase in programs which support it (which for many users including myself is 0 programs which i actually use)

I would stick with an i5 its large overkill for watching movies but still very fast and is likely worth the money. I7 is very difficult to justify for the increased price over an i5. Especially when you consider the limitations of laptop graphics cards for games (which are one of the main reasons a lot of people go for the i5 and i7 processors)

Answer:
No upgrade will be available for a Notebook anyways. But you WILL get better performances with i7.

The tricky part is it will use more battery power AND multimedia is also dependant on video card. So be sure to get a notebook with a dedicated (ATI or NVIDIA) video processor. I think this would be more important than choosing i7 over i5 processors.

Answer:
Both are awesome cpus but i7 is newer, better, the higher end cpu you may find right now…The difference between both however may be very subtle to most users.

Answer:
i would recommend intel i7. Because it has 8 processing threads with Intel® HT technology. And intel i5 has only 4 processing threads. So that means intel i7 is much faster. :)

Answer:
definately i7. but they’re both good.
