if this is your laptop and spec then this already has 3gb installed and you shouldnt need anymore as vista only supports up to 3.5 gb ram either way i would state your laptop has two ram slots one with 2gb in and one with 1gb in so to upgrade you’ll need to purchase a 2gb stick to replace the the 1gb stick hence giving you 4gb to install just open the cover on the reverse of laptop clip out the ram you want to replace and insert new ram

Try your local pc shop they will be happy to give you advice and will tell you how much it will cost. If it was a desktop pc you were going to add memory to then that would be easy but i have never had any experience adding memory to laptops.
