Ok I got this Laptop about a year ago from my Dad on 1 condition….I take good care of it. And now my Laptop is SO messed up it freezes like each couple of minutes, it has TONS of viruses, and its really noisy. And in a couple of months I’m going to see him again and I want to show him that I took good care of it. So any ideas on how to repair this?

If you use limewire or torrents, that is likely how the personal go infected.

If it has tons of virus's. Then I would run a scan with my virus protection program, if you don;t have one, get one download AVG.

After that run scan with your spyware protection programs like spybot, that's a good one and is free to download.

Also beaware don’t have more then on virus protection program on your computer, otherwise you’ll have problems, conflict issues making it hard to remove virus. You can have 2-3 spyware programs, but only one virus protection program.

If the personal is making noise, that would mean that it's overheating and built up with dust. Whcih means it needs to be cleaned. Also do not leave laptops on for 24/7, as that can cause this to happen.

get all your data off the PC - burn it to a CD or usb drive or something. Find your Windows XP (or whatever) disk… and reinstall windows absolutely - get it to format the drive when installing windows (it should be an option), then everything goes back to how it was.

(although it might still be a bit noisy because of its age - but a clean install of XP may help as its prob doing loads in the background all the time)

Do you’ve a back up cd of you os? if so wipe it. It will get rid of all the virus' and should make it quicker. Remember to back up your stuff before you do so. if you havent got the disc tthen buy a good antivirus and scan your personal.

my father always installs norton anti-virus onto all of our personal and it keeps viruses from infecting our computers.

i think its a little pricey, but i think its worth it.
