The adaptor on my laptop went so it would no longer turn on. (I no longer have a battery, it died absolutely.) I purchased a USB enclosure for my hard drive to connect it to my mom's laptop so that I have the ability to take my files off the hard drive and that worked… Today, I went to buy a universal adaptor for my laptop and that worked too so now it turns on. I put my hard drive back in my laptop so that I could use it again, but I get a message on a black screen saying:

Intel ® Boot Agent FE v4.1.18
Copyright © 1997-2005, Intel Corporation

Initialing and establishing link…_ < disappears then says:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

(It repeats all that over and over unless I force it down.)

My laptop is a HP Pavillion dv1000. (3 years old)

Answer:
It means that it can't boot to your hard drive so it is trying to find a network drive to boot from.

Try opening BIOS setup (F2 or Del or other key look on the screen)

Find Boot Order or Boot Sequence and make sure the Hard Drive is first device to boot from.
Save settings and exit.

If that doesn't fix it, go back to BIOS setup and look for a Function key for Defaults (mine is F6)
Save settings and exit.

Make sure the drive is installed all the way in the socket.

Answer:
Remove and reconnect the hard disk. If symptoms persist, it is possible that you damaged the connector or the wiring.

Meanwhile, check that hard disk again on your mom's laptop to see if it's still okay.

Answer:
It means it's trying to boot over the network. Make sure the hard drive is working, properly connected, and the personal is configured to try to boot from it.
