I've had my dell laptop for less than 9 months. The lsd internal screen cracked and I’ve no idea how. I called them up and they won't cover it under my 2 year warranty and want close to 400 dollars to mend it.
I was going to bring it to a local store and see what they charge but will that void the remainder of my 2 year warranty?

Answer:
Option 1: if the item isn’t covered by warranty, then you’ve to mend it. Usually, Dell is the lowest price due to labor. They’re also the fastest for hardware return. If you find someone cheaper, make sure they are replacing it with the right part - there are a lot of screens out there.

Option 2: if the laptop is only 9 months old, can you still buy the “drop it” warranty from Dell? This is the warranty that covers everything, even accidents by you. If you can purchase that, you can then turn it in to get fixed. This isn’t always offered once you buy your dell, so ask first, then call back with the broken screen. There are people who state this is using the system, but not if they offer the service.

And the accident warranty isn't cheap either, but if you’re already spending $400, it may be less than that and it gives you an additional warranty in case it breaks again after the repair.

Answer:
yes, once they open your laptop's casing, they break a seal of warranty which they can't replace, as opposed to Dell's Service Center.

Naturally, the Dell Service Center wouldn’t cover cracks, because physical defects are caused my misuse and not factory faults. But that's OK, because they can still fix it, for a normal fee, like any other local store. Then, of course, you will retain your warranty for the remainder of the 2 years from the time of buy.

Good luck!

Answer:
Probably, yes. Even though it is something that the warranty doesnt cover, the fact that your laptop will have been opened up by someone not authorised by Dell will void it.

Answer:
If there is any plastic sticker on your personal preventing anyone from opening the case …and you can’t open the case without breaking that sticker..then yes..breaking the sticker means losing the warranty.

Answer:
It just has to be an authorized dell service center.
