What is the difference between a note book and a normal laptop?

I want to purchase a new vaio and would really appreciate it if you could tell me what the difference is between the two laptops (two links below), one is classed as a notebook, the other a laptop. Which is ideal and why??

THANK U x

The personal really aren't that much different. If you’re just needing something to surf the web, then the cheaper one will work just fine. But the more expensive one has a built in webcam and microphone if you think you might want to do some live cam feeds on the web. The cheaper of the two has an Intel integrated video card, which I know sucks if you want to play any games, and the more expensive has an ATI which is a good video card company so you’ll be able to play some lower end games if you want. They both have comparable speeds as far as processors and the 1 gigabyte difference in ram won't make that huge of a change because you probably won't even come close to using up all your ram space. After all is stated and done I would just tell you to get the cheaper one. They have the ability to both do pretty much what you would need them to without any problems. Just a quick word of advice though, Sonys are overpriced and you can probably find a comparable personal for a lot cheaper. Sony just looks better.

I have found the ideal explanation on the link below.
“Although the term Notebook is now often used interchangeably with the term Laptop, it was originally introduced to differentiate a smaller, thinner and lighter range of devices (comparable with a traditional paper notebook) which supplanted their more massive counterparts”.
Now, it's up to you: notebooks are smaller, cheaper, but the display is smaller too. If money doesn't matter and you’ve no experience, I suggest you to pick the laptop. However, I’m glad with a netbook - you'll find the explanation in the same article. One has to choose between comfort and portability.

no difference between a notebook and a laptop really

strangely enough the more expensive one is the superior one ;)
