Not to mention the name makes me giggle. And I happen to be an Apple fan … but if they had put half the effort they put into this into making a netbook they would have done a lot better.

I totally concur! I just posted my own question on this topic….I love Apple and everything they make seems to be great, but I hate, HATE the iPad. It just seems like a ridiculous idea! It is an oversized, glorified ipod touch. In general I hate tablets, and the fact that Apple thought there was a market in them over netbooks is ridiculous!

Yeah steve jobs states netbooks suck and that they’re small with no power, but that's where Apple could revolutionize the netbook market. I still own a 12″ powerbook due to its size! If Apple made another 11-12″ laptop and named it the inet or something of that nature, then they would sell tons! To me more people, especially college students, are buying netbooks due to their portability and price tag…Apple could easily sell a great 12″ netbook w/raw power for $599-699 and people would purchase it over a cheap netbook. To me it just makes more sense that a tablet.

Anyway I'm very upset over the iPad and as an Apple guy, I’ll never support, suggest or buy the damn thing! Mark my words, come one year from now, the iPad will be dead and Apple will never step foot in the tablet market…much like there bluetooth headsets and soon to be Apple tv.

At first glance, I was thinking - extra huge itouch, yeah so.. but then it kind of makes sense in a lot of ways: Web browsing - better then squinting on an itouch, or having to have a lap top ..ah …on your lap using a keyboard pad which is never as good as a mouse, and a mouse on a reclining chair kinda of sucks. Using your index finger to browse will feel more natural - and not like using your finger on an itouch/phone which, by the way, is torture if you ever used it. Book reading is a no brainier, that may be one of its huge selling points - kindle with color…. yes, different technology, but nevertheless, impressive. Not much of a difference in terms of music; the smaller devices will always make more sense. As an itouch owner, I have to state, many of the games are quite astonishing, but really, huge fingers on a little screen with your head tilted down isn’t much fun for more then a few minutes. Racing games using the accelerometer with both hands like a steering wheel works out so well; painting on a nice size canvas; a virtual keyboard that you can actually type on..so you can finally reply to emails without wanting to throw your iphone/touch against a wall, and the list goes on. It's going to do well ..now if they can only dump Safari as their browser.

Bit of a dissapointment, aint it?

My theory is that the iPad is going to fill in the void left by e-paper readers.

Since e-readers are only suitable for eBooks and a bit of web browsing, the iPad expands on that by having a LCD multi-touch screen, big solid state storage and media playback, along with the usual wireless tech like Bluetooth, Wifi and 3G connectivity.

Even though the media hype that surrounds it gives the false impression that the tablet was going to be a “netbook killer”. It unfortunately isn't, since it runs a gimped iPhone OS that limits it to using one application at a time, only supports Apps thru the iTunes store and not surprisingly, the lack of Flash support. It's a tablet that's more akin to an overgrown iPod touch / iPhone, not a netbook or laptop replacement.

You'd expect that a tablet “computer” would at least have Flash enabled, but no, the boffins at Cupertino decided that the average person doesn't need it.

I'm an apple fan. the name sounds like a three year old trying to say iPod. the product is alright… I wouldn't purchase it although the price is… ehhh, okay i guess. If I were to purchase one I would wait for the next generation when it comes out with a web cam for video chat, improved speakers, USB drive, price cut with larger memory space. USB is key though because i would want to carry the attachments with me if I wanted to connect some other gadget. Design is nice, easy, and clean though.

Answer:
To think they will use the iPhone OS in a tablet is just overly ridiculous. How could it be better than a netbook by the way. It also can’t offer the portability like a smart phone can. So it falls nowhere, just another huge iPhone, minus the success it will make when it reaches the market.
